About Us
Education First Credit Union traces its roots back to 1932, when a group of dedicated teachers from the Ogden School District united during the hardships of the Great Depression. Their vision was simple but powerful: to create a financial lifeline for educators by providing a safe place to save and borrow. From humble beginnings of operating out of the back of a car, the Ogden Teachers Credit Union was born, driven by passion, trust, and a shared commitment to support one another.
Membership was initially exclusive, with each school assigning a credit union representative to help grow this grassroots effort. Over time, the credit union expanded to include not just teachers, but also secretaries, maintenance workers, students, and their families, strengthening its role as a central resource within the educational community.
In 1991, reflecting its broader reach, the name was changed to Ogden School District Credit Union. The commitment to education remained at the heart of every expansion, including the 2001 merger with the Utah School for the Deaf and Blind and the 2005 decision to open membership to residents of Weber County.
In 2006, a new name, Education First Credit Union, was adopted to better reflect our mission: putting education and people first. Today, we proudly serve educators, students, families, and community members, all while honoring the cooperative spirit and legacy of support that began over 90 years ago.
